Church Affiliation
We are a part of Virginia Mennonite Conference, a conference linked by history, theology and geography, with a shared call to Christian faith, evangelism, discipleship, peacemaking and service.
What We Believe
The Powhatan congregation believes that its purpose is to worship God and expand His Kingdom in the local community and the world..
Mennonites hold many basic doctrines in common with other Christian groups. In relation to the theological issues of the Reformation times, they emphasize the following:
-
The Bible as the authoritative Word of God and the New Testament as the pattern of life for the community of believers.
-
The sinfulness of man and the necessity of regeneration through accepting Jesus as Savior and Lord.
-
The church, the visible body of Christ, practicing believer’s baptism and regarding the elements of the Lord’s Supper as memorial symbols.
-
The life of active peacemaking rather than participation in warfare.
-
The separation of church and state.
-
The life of simplicity and separation from worldly extravagances.
-
The believing community, a refuge of love and mutual aid.
-
The daily walk of obedient discipleship, under the leading of the Holy Spirit.
